Top 5 problems with Microsoft Vista
Microsoft's long awaited Vista arrived today with mixed reviews. The launch campaign was excellent. Bill gates himself has been making appearence on talk shows, news and other media. Microsoft is getting tons of publicity. I don't mind Windows products, but Vista's hype is matched by skeptism. Word of mouth and viral publicity would have made more sense at this stage. I would have saved the big hype for when the product is more available to the masses. But, then they wouldn't make money on the revised version. Here are my top 5 problems with Vista, according to bloggers(me) and and the media. Don't let this discourage you from buying a new Vista system. Overall, Vista is a step above XP and a good robust system for the everyday user.
5. It's late. Vista was scheduled to arrive before Christmas. Only Enterprise customers could buy it at this time.
4. Price. $259 for premium and $159 for the upgrade.
3. Gaming. Certain games don't work on Vista. X-Box plugs directly to Vista, but favoring Microsoft's gaming partners usually makes it harder for independents or third parties.
2. It's too close in resemblance to Mac OS X Tiger. Even Apple calls vista a "copycat".
1. Your PC can't run Vista. Only 15% of the computers on the market have the configuration to run Vista. If you want Vista now, you have to buy a new computer. Thats good news for computer manufactures (Dell's stock went up). Whats the big deal about the launch if you need a new machine.

hmm, about the first point, when a major OS comes out, i don't think it makes sense to make it compatible to a major percentage of hardware out there. things move fast in this industry and irrespective of all the "oh why do we need yet another update" cynicism people actually quite like newer computers. there's no point in coming out with an OS 4 years post and it not being good enuff to use the potential of software thats gonna evolve in the next 3-4 years.
about point 2, that it resembles the MAc OS Tiger, i don't think the microsoft users care much about it, cos 1, most windows users never used a mac and don't care about "pride" stuff like, "oh shucks, this is copied stuff, its gonna make me look a wannabe".
about point 5, its an OS, its microsoft, with their penetration Vista is going to be the OS for a very big percentage of computers worldwide, yes worldwide, for the next 3-4 years at least. one christmas missed is not so much a big deal.
And while this is an assumption, I think a very big percentage of microsoft users r kind of people who might not know where the seam runs between hardware n software.

About point 2). I dont think Vista copycat Tiger OSX. Does Tiger OSX has something like glass or smooth minimize/maximize effect? I dont think so.
Vista's new UI is 100x better, feel much smoother than Mac OS X.
