The micro-blogging site Twitter, has gained popularity in its short two year lifespan. Partly because it's quick and easy to use from multiple devices. CNN's Rick Sanchez uses it to connect with his audience. Rick also uses Facebook. It really says something when a trusted news organization like CNN uses a social media product on live broadcast. The BBC is also on board.
I personally believe that technology is typically layered on top of existing tasks to add some sort of value. Which is why it's not surprising to see social media technology merge with traditional media. I'm also not surprised that the defense department is warning about terrorists possibly using Twitter. The site is a simple, cross platform communication tool that allows short messages to be sent globally, instantly. It's a communication tool... for good and for bad. I can almost predict the next headline... Terrorist Using the Internet!
