The world is a faster place today. When I started blogging, Twitter didn't really exist, Facebook was smaller than Myspace and Apple didn't make phones or pads. People weren't checking in to become mayors of their local McDonald's.
I started blogging in Richmond, Virginia in the US of A. This was before the first black president and before economic the shit storm that has yet to settle, unsettled everything.
Since then, digital and social media has evolved and continue to evolve at an alarming rate. Facebook has taken over, social gaming and check-ins are common among digital newbies. Artist born into this period of hyperconnectivity have grown at an alarming rate. Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga have been seen hundreds of millions of times. Anything before 2008 feels so old school.
It's a different world today. The waves are bigger, faster and shorter. It's easier to drown in the sea of memes and random "I'mma let you finish" moments that last for a week, then end up in the best-of-last-week shows on TV stations that nobody watches. Don't blink, or you may miss something important.
Those of you that know me, know that I have a short attention span, but can hyperfocus when I see something interesting. It's ADD heaven on the interweb, and I'd like to start making some waves of my own. Stay tuned for more...
I'm going to borrow the term hyperfocus. It's a good one.
